David’s next assignment brought him to El Paso, Texas in 1997 where he joined the joint venture team of Gilbane and ECM International to assist in the completion and close-out of the newly constructed El Paso International Airport Expansion Project.  Following the completion of the airport project, David worked on many jobs including the groundbreaking implementation of CM at Risk alternative delivery system in Texas.  David’s hard work was acknowledged when Gilbane awarded his team the 2001 Southwest Region Iver Johnson Builder of the year for the Sunridge Middle School/Lujan Chavez Elementary School combo and El Dorado High School.  This award is given annually to one of Gilbane’s’ project teams based on several criteria including quality, safety, client satisfaction, teamwork, MBE/WBE participation and reaching sustainability goals.

With the economic recession of 2006, David decided to join former Gilbane joint venture partner Tom Cardenas of ECM International to form CK Construction.  David’s commitment to the K-12 market remains strong.  As opportunity has arisen, David draws from this experience to diversity into medical, retail, government leased and light industrial projects.
